In the summer I was asked to speak at a delightful new Literary Festival at Ayot Green in Hertfordshire. Set in an attractive setting on the green, near Brocket Hall, and in idyllic weather, it was almost too good to be true. (I am an addict of Midsomer Murders and it would have been oh such a perfect setting for an episode– but luckily nothing so awful happened and it was a joy for everyone.) I hope it is destined to grow and flourish.
Last weekend I went to the Frinton-on-Sea Literary Festival, in Essex, another local event which is now well established and was celebrating its 10th birthday. Again it is small but enormously enjoyable and very popular. I was lucky enough to have been asked to introduce the guest speaker , Sophie Hannah, at their literary luncheon which was great fun.
The Lavenham Literary Festival (Suffolk) is a biennial event. I was honoured to be a speaker at their first ever Festival two years ago; the second is coming up next month and I shall look forward to being in the audience this time round.
