A busy few months and no sign of slowing down. Several shorter commissions and of course the ‘next’ novel have been filling my time pretty much non stop. I love it when all is going along swimmingly, but when one is approaching deadline time and there is still research to fit in and still pages to go, it can become a little stressful, especially when our builder is coming to knock a hole through the wall and rooms need clearing and covering in dust sheets. On both sides of the hole!
I was so happy when it was winter and I was writing about winter – everything seemed to fit seamlessly, but now it is spring, there are flowers everywhere (and this year the osmanthus isn’t early so it perfectly timed for the bees to feast on. Last year it inexplicably flowered in February and there were no bees to be seen.) But, I am still writing about winter. I suppose I can safely claim I’ve had enough experience of winters to be able to write about it in detail – and convincingly enough to have to go downstairs for a hot drink and an extra sweater even when the sun is blazing outside, so I’m not too worried.
And, Easter is on its way and the paperback of The Story Spinner is due for publication on 22nd May. I can’t wait to see it on the shelves.
And, in the meantime, I am looking out of a window onto a garden white with snow, and I can hear the fire crackling in the hearth and best of all, I can smell mulled wine. Pity it isn’t real!
